New at LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Atlanta - Pirate Adventure Island

New Giant Pirate Ship, Aquatic Obstacle Course, and More

***Thanks to fellow publisher Michelle Sisco, Smyrna-Vinings-Marietta Macaroni Kid for sharing her review.

Last Friday night, we were guests of
LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Atlanta, to experience the debut of their brand new attraction, Pirate Adventure Island. The former soft-play area (for kids only) has been opened up to create this much larger attraction, complete with a giant pirate ship, an aquatic building area and shiploads more fun! Kids of all ages (that means you too mom and dad) can participate in it all - just climb aboard! Watch out though - you might end up in prison! Or maybe you'll be be able to send your kids there for a brief time out - I don't think these guys minded it.

If your kids love to build boats, they'll love being able to race their finished products through the aquatic obstacle course pictured on the left. (Some of the upgraded soft play area is pictured on the right.)

Said Aries Viera, Master Model Builder of LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Atlanta, “the new component is not only an exploration of the high seas, but it is also an educational quest for families with several hands-on sensory activities. With endless interactive, playful elements Pirate Adventure Island is sure to create lasting memories for visiting families!”

Pirate Adventure Island is designed to encourage both children and adults alike to participate in free play and tactile activities. Families can explore treasure island themed build spaces to create their own LEGO® sandcastle or treasure map, construct a LEGO® pirate ship and set sail through an aquatic obstacle course and battle fellow shipmates by setting off air cannons. The new exhibit has a soft play element and sends guests on a pirate adventure as they climb the rigging, walk the plank, capture the flag!

We also got a chance to see the new The LEGO® Movie™ 4D A New Adventure. The short movie is fun for both kids AND adults. But be prepared - you might get a little wet! HERE is a sneak peak. We hadn't seen LEGO® LEGENDS OF CHIMA™ either, so we watched that one as well. The special effects for both movies are, well, really special! And the kids enjoyed them both. Let's be real - there's nothing about LEGOLAND® they didn't love.

We were only able to stay for about two hours, but under different circumstances (perhaps on a rainy day) my kids would have happily stayed all day. Be aware however, that despite being located inside Phipps Plaza, there's no re-entry allowed once you exit. So once you're in - plan to stay! Luckily, there's an open cafeteria area for parents to sit and watch their kids (or catch up with adult friends while the kids enjoy some free play). And Free Wi-Fi is available too.

Just in case you haven't been to LEGOLAND®,  I'm still amazed by MINILAND® - and I particularly love this reproduction of the Fox Theatre! The work that went into recreating all of these Atlanta institutions is phenomenal. And I love that if you wait just long enough, you can experience both daylight and nighttime versions. There's Turner Field, Stone Mountain Park, the High Museum, King and Queen Towers and so much more. It's really something! And hey - if you have friends visiting from out of town, here's the easiest tour of Atlanta you'll ever give!

Pirate Adventure Island joins LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Atlanta’s fleet of other playful offerings, such as Kingdom Quest Laser Ride (check out the photo of us below - moms win!), Merlin’s Apprentice Ride (my youngest and his friend claim that they rode this 12 times - and I do mean rode it - as it requires peddling to lift your chair up into the air), MINILAND®, the LEGO® Master Builder Academy, LEGO Friends Olivia’s House and more!

LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Atlanta is also a wonderful place for birthday parties, homeschool outings and field trips (note to self - talk to our Cub Scout den).  For more information on these offerings and everything related to the venue, please visitwww.legolanddiscoverycenter.com/atlanta/
