From the moment I took the Caillou doll out of the box, you can imagine their faces lit up! It was actually quite hard to get them to choose who got to try the doll out first. They both loved that Caillou would talk "to" them. And my daughter just went wild when Caillou said "Bonjour" to her. We have a dear friend who just visited Paris, France and sent my daughter a postcard from there that also said "Bonjour" so that was a great connection. We spoke about how Caillou speaks French as well as English and experimented with what all he can do. Teaching toddlers colors, seasons and many in both languages. As we know as parents, kids have a love for learning new things and I think with Spanish being such a universal second language being taught in schools now, it's great to expose the kids to other languages. I grew up in Northern Michigan so our second language was French. It was great to hear some familiar words.
The doll is very lightweight, great for young toddlers. In addition, his clothing is soft and colorful. The only down side is that his hat falls off quite easily and that became a 'minor ordeal' the first few minutes of play with my kids. But they quickly get over things like that and just put it inside of his functional backpack that snaps closed.
Since my son wasn't feeling well this day, he was the one who got the honor of snuggling with Caillou for the day.
