Coming Together to Help a Local Family in Need

By Erin S. Alpharetta-Roswell Macaroni Kid publisher June 14, 2013
The following story was submitted by Alpharetta-Roswell Macaroni Kid publisher Erin S.

It was brought to my attention early last week from a local Macaroni mom.  It is my hope that helping spread the word about this local family might inspire others to help out where they can....for this family, another family in need, or just by showing random acts of kindness to our neighbors.  Please join me in whatever way you can to help brighten someone's day...Erin

Excerpt from the 'Prayers for the McLeod Family' Facebook page:

"Lightning is not supposed to strike twice.  But it did.  Bad things are not supposed to happen to good people, but they have.  It's not for us to understand or question, but it is for us to make a difference.

For our neighborhood McLeod family, we cannot act too soon.  Just a few years ago, they were McLeod family of five -- Amy, Travis, and their kids: Ruthie, Gavin and Mason. In third grade, Mason was diagnosed with cancer. Even after a stem cell transplant from his sibling and chemo, Mason lost his battle. His last wish was to return to fifth grade at Ocee Elementary – which he did – but unfortunately, he was gone too soon.  The Johns Creek community rallied while the family mourned.  If it's true that God's not going to give you more than you can handle, then the McLeods must have the endurance to move mountains.

As if that weren’t enough and only a short time later, Travis, the patriarch of the family, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  He's endured chemo and radiation but died on May 23, 2013.

The medical bills are mounting.  The needs are increasing.  The McLeod family cannot wait.  We always talk about making a difference.  This is our chance to do more than talk.  Let's demonstrate what a little love and faith can do."
